V Cars Guide to Bristol Balloon Fiesta

Bristol’s International Balloon Fiesta is the largest annual hot air balloon event in Europe. Offering four days of free family fun, there’s no wonder this iconic event is one of the highlights of the year across the city!

This year’s Fiesta, which takes place from 8th – 11th August at Ashton Court Estate, will honour some of the city’s most famous creations including Wallace and Gromit, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary, as well as Concorde and many more!

There’s so much to do and see whilst you’re there, so make sure you make the most of your visit by catching a glimpse of some of these:

Mass Ascents
Mass ascents take place in the morning and evening of each day, around 6am and 6pm. During the mass ascents, up to 100 hot air balloons fill the Bristol skyline. It’s truly a sight to behold!

Night Glows
Night Glows will take place on Thursday and Saturday evenings at 9pm. Lasting around an hour, this spectacular light show is the most iconic part of the Fiesta and definitely not something you want to miss!

Plus, there’s plenty of entertainment and activities taking place over the course of the festival to keep the whole family entertained, including everything from carnival rides to live music and dance performances, as well as plenty of local food and drink on offer.

If you don’t fancy the hustle and bustle of Ashton Court, there’s a good chance of seeing the balloons from various viewing points across the city. We advise heading to a higher point to make sure you get a glimpse. Popular locations include Leigh Woods, Clifton Observatory, Troopers Hill, Victoria Park and Brandon Hill.

Travel
If you don’t fancy getting caught up in the car park, you can always catch a lift to the event with V Cars. Pick up and drop off for the event will be at the designated point, which is just a short walk from the festival site and means you miss the long queues in and out of the car park.
